Gardendale Chamber of Commerce

In early 1987, a group of city officials, business and community leaders began an effort to organize a Chamber of Commerce for the Gardendale area. This effort was lead by Mary Ella Potts and Virginia Freeman who did much of the organizational efforts and legwork to make the Chamber a reality. In May of 1987 the Gardendale Chamber of Commerce held its first meeting and chartered in August 1987 with 175 members. By year end the Chamber boasted a membership of 230 members.

In September 1987 the Chamber co-sponsored with City of Gardendale a Bicentennial Celebration of Constitution Day. In December of the same year, the Chamber sponsored the first annual Christmas Parade.

Over the years, the Chamber has remained a vital part of the City of Gardendale. The Chamber today still hosts the annual Christmas Parade, co-hosts the Magnolia Festival with the Rotary Club in which money is raised for local scholarships, and brings a top rated circus to town. The Chamber also plays a vital role in Relay for Life, the Red Cross Blood Drive and many other social and civic functions. Because the Chamber now reaches far beyond Gardendale's City limits, the board voted in January 2002 to change our name to the Greater Gardendale Chamber of Commerce.
